Leading with STRESS

Many of us are preparing to give midterm exams, MOY assessments and don’t forget about the grading…

As a teacher, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant demands of the job. From lesson planning and grading, to parent-teacher conferences and meetings, there always seems to be something that needs to be done.

However, it’s important to remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your students. Here are a few strategies to help you manage your stress and stay on top of things.

1. Prioritize – Try to prioritize your tasks and make a schedule. This will help you stay organized and ensure that you are completing your most important assignments first. Try to break down larger tasks into smaller, more manageable ones. This will make the task feel less overwhelming and help you make steady progress.

2. Take Breaks – Give yourself time to relax and recharge. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, or simply taking a walk outside. It’s also essential to set boundaries, try not to bring work home.

3. Ask for Help – Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Don’t hesitate to ask an administrator, colleague or a mentor for guidance. Try social media and join a support group with other teachers. This can be a great way to share ideas, get advice, and find a sense of community.

4. Self-Care – It’s important to remember to take care of yourself. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating well, and staying hydrated. Taking care of your physical and emotional well-being will help you feel more energized and better equipped to handle the demands of the job.

5. Keep it Real – Try to keep things in perspective. Remember that you are making a difference in the lives of your students and that you are not alone in your struggles. Every teacher feels overwhelmed at some point, and it’s important to be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up, we’re all in this together.

Finally, we all know that being an educator can be a challenging and demanding job. However, if you prioritize your tasks, take breaks, seek help, and take care of yourself, you can manage the stress and stay on top of things.

It’s also important to remember to have a positive outlook and never forget your why.
