What is #LeadingWithSWAG

What is #LeadingWithSWAG ~

#LeadingWithSWAG is a philosophy rooted in four principles designed to promote a positive school culture.

School culture is generally described as a set of beliefs, values, and attitudes that shape and influence every aspect of how a school functions.

Unfortunately, school culture isn’t nearly discussed as much as it should be. It’s my belief that having a positive school culture will truly benefit both students and staff. In order to create this positive culture, the school community itself should really have a love for learning and for the school.

Community members should look forward to walking through the school building each day. The teachers should feel happy and excited to share what they are passionate about. The students should be exploring and finding their own passions. The school should be buzzing with excitement!

We need to build COMMUNITY!

We need to stop focusing on the desired outcomes.  Instead, we need to start focusing on the meaningful interactions that happen while we build up to those outcomes.

As educators we need to nurture curiosity and develop a child’s NEED and WANT to learn. We should be doing the same with our teachers. We NEED to start focusing on culture.

With that being said, I give you, #LeadingWithSWAG:

S.W.A.G. is an acronym that introduces you to the four principles designed to shape and promote a positive culture in any school.

When you #LeadWithSWAG, you:

S – Set the tone

W – Work together as a team

A – Acknowledge everyone

G – Go above and beyond for your community.

Join me as I continue to discuss these principles and share some personal anecdotes about my life as a school leader.
